Myofunctional Therapy

Physical therapy exercises designed to improve your bite, breathing, and quality of life.

What is myofunctional therapy?

Myofunctional therapy is a treatment similar to physical therapy which is performed to retrain the muscles of the face, neck, and mouth, with an emphasis in training the correct resting postures of the tongue and lips.

The end goal? Proper breathing through the diaphragm and nose! Once retraining is complete, patients are able to get more usable oxygen into their airways.

What are the benefits of this type of treatment?

The benefits of myofunctional therapy are numerous! From more balanced moods and clearer thinking, to straighter teeth, improved facial symmetry, and reduced snoring, this type of treatment has the potential to change your life.

Additional benefits include improved swallowing, suction, and chewing, and even a reduction of obstructive sleep apnea.

In fact, if myofunctional therapy is introduced at a young age and the facial muscles are trained to act in their optimal biological way, muscle memory can keep the teeth and jaw in alignment as we grow and develop. In many cases, this training can even eliminate the need for future orthodontics.

Although this therapy is ideal for prevention of future challenges for children, myofunctional therapy is a great option for patients of all ages! This treatment is non-invasive and comes with no major risks.

If you suffer from:

  • Headaches

  • Neck pain

  • Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain,

  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

  • Heartburn

myofunctional therapy could be a great option for you.
